Three Easy Steps for Cleaning your Binoculars

Are your binoculars giving you visibility trouble? This is definitely because of the accumulated dust. Do you know how to clean it? If you are thinking about the breathe-and-rub method, that is the wrong way to clean your binoculars. When you rub dust across it, microscopic scratches occur on the ultra-thin coatings of the lenses. These scratches cannot be seen with the naked eye but they do scatter light which leads to the cloudy images of your binocular.

So, the first thing you must remember about cleaning binoculars is you must get rid of the dust before you start rubbing. Nowadays, binocular online shopping has become easier as there are so many sports equipment stores available. They offer a wide variety of sports accessories such as sports shoes, sports apparel, rifle scopes, binoculars, tripods and bipods for sale. So, you can get attractive deals on these goods too. So, when you are putting so much time and effort in buying these goods, why not make a little extra effort in maintaining them. Follow these steps to keep your binoculars clean and tidy.

  • Step 1: In order to remove the loose dust from the binocular lenses you have to brush the lens with a cleaning pen whose soft brushes do not harm the glass or the coatings. Hold the binocular upside down so that the dust falls down. You can also blow out the dust but with a can of air because if you use your breath, droplets of water from your breath will spot your lens.
  • Step 2: Next, use a Q-tip with water or lens cleaning solution to wipe off remaining dust particles. You can directly put them under the tap, although not very hard if your binoculars are waterproof. Make sure the fluid is different from the ones designed for cleaning window panes and spectacles as it may affect the coatings.
  • Step 3: Next you have to gently wipe the lens when the dust is removed completely. Use a very soft cotton cloth or a lens tissue- a special microfiber lens cloth to do so. Never use facial tissues or paper towels as they are quite rough and often include wood fiber which scratches the lenses and coatings on the lenses.
Just as being careful about dropping it from your hands, you should be careful about wrong cleaning procedures too. Most people make a mistake with the cleaning process. You can check for cleaning manuals or cleaning kits when you do binocular online shopping. Generally, people get too excited when they find binoculars, rifle scopes, tripods or bipods for sale. But you must check whether it can be easily maintained at home and then make a decision.
